About us

We're building an advertising economy that gives back.

FediMedia exists for a simple reason: the Fediverse is growing, and growth costs money. Rather than let communities quietly buckle under storage and bandwidth bills, we're building a fairer way for them to fund themselves — without selling their users to anyone.

Our story

FediMedia is a product of Vula Systems, a pioneering technology company based in South Africa. The name comes from vula — “open” in isiZulu — and openness runs through everything we build: open protocols, open communities, and an open social web that ordinary people can own a piece of.

We build across the emerging federated internet: the social network Vulasocial (vula.social) and the video network OurTube.Africa for African creators. Along the way, one problem kept surfacing: running a node is not free, and relying on goodwill alone does not scale. Ads, done properly, are one of the few realistic answers.

So we built the version of advertising we would actually accept: opt-in, anonymous, contextual and human-reviewed — where the money lands with the people who run the servers, not with a middleman hoarding an audience.

What we believe

Privacy is not a feature

It's the floor. No tracking, no profiles, no data brokers — full stop.

The Fediverse sets the rules

Nodes are sovereign. They opt in, they control placement, they can walk away.

Money stays in the community

Reasonable margins, real payouts to operators, an economy that doesn't reward the same recycled hands.

Honesty over hype

We'll tell you what works, what's coming, and what we won't do.
