Legal
Terms & Conditions
Last updated: October 2026 · Applies to ads.fedifuel.com and all FediMedia services.
A note on this document. These terms describe, as clearly and fairly as we can, the nature of the FediMedia service and the responsibilities of each party. They are provided as a good-faith template and are not a substitute for legal advice. Before relying on them commercially, have them reviewed by a qualified attorney in your jurisdiction.
1. Who we are
FediMedia is a product operated by Vula Systems (“FediMedia”, “we”, “us”, “our”), a company based in South Africa. FediMedia operates an advertising network for the open social web (the “Service”), made available at ads.fedifuel.com and related domains.
2. The nature of the Service
FediMedia is a platform and intermediary. We connect advertisers who wish to promote content (“Advertisers”) with independent operators of federated social and video servers (“Node Operators”) who choose to display sponsored content to their communities through an embedded widget. FediMedia does not own or control any participating node, and Node Operators are independent third parties, not our employees, agents or partners.
The billable event is a verified follow — a follow confirmed through the ActivityPub protocol on a target account associated with a campaign. We do not bill for impressions or unverified clicks.
3. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a binding agreement.
- You must provide accurate information and keep your credentials secure.
- You are responsible for all activity under your account.
- We may refuse, suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms or poses a risk to the network or its communities.
4. Advertiser terms
- You are solely responsible for the content you promote and for ensuring it is truthful, lawful and not misleading.
- All ads are subject to human review. We may reject or remove any ad at our discretion, including mid-campaign.
- You fund campaigns in advance. Funds are held against your campaign and consumed as verified follows occur.
- We do not guarantee any particular number of follows, reach or commercial result.
- You warrant that you own or have the right to use all content, trademarks and materials in your campaign, and that your promotion complies with applicable consumer-protection and advertising laws.
5. Node Operator terms
- You display sponsored content at your own discretion and remain responsible for your node, its community and its users.
- You must not generate, encourage or permit fraudulent follows, automated traffic, click farms or any attempt to game the network. Doing so is a material breach and may result in forfeiture of earnings and termination.
- Earnings accrue from verified follows attributable to your node, are held briefly in escrow to guard against fraud, and are subject to per-node trust caps.
- Identity verification (Pi KYC or equivalent) is required before any payout, to comply with applicable financial and anti-fraud obligations.
- You are responsible for any tax obligations arising from your earnings.
- You control your widget: you choose whether it runs, where it appears, and which origins may embed it.
6. Payments, escrow and refunds
- Advertisers may fund campaigns by card/EFT via our payment processor (Paystack) or with Pi Network coins where available.
- Verified follows are recorded in an append-only ledger and held in escrow for a defined window before release, to allow fraud checks.
- Unused campaign funds may, at our discretion, be refunded or retained for future campaigns.
- Payment processing is subject to the terms of the relevant provider. We are not responsible for a provider’s own failures or delays.
7. Prohibited content and conduct
You may not use the Service to promote or facilitate:
- hate speech, harassment, discrimination or content inciting violence;
- illegal goods, services or activity, or content that infringes the rights of others;
- adult or sexually explicit content, gambling, or regulated financial products where prohibited;
- malware, phishing, scams, pyramid schemes or misleading health or financial claims;
- political or issue-based advertising where it would breach the rules of a participating node; or
- any content or activity that would harm a community, compromise user privacy, or bring the Service or the Fediverse into disrepute.
8. Intellectual property
You retain ownership of the content you submit. You grant FediMedia a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display and distribute that content solely as necessary to operate the Service. FediMedia and its licensors retain all rights in the Service, its software and its brand.
9. Privacy
Our handling of information is governed by our Privacy notice. In summary: we do not track users across the web, we do not build personal profiles, and our analytics are anonymous and aggregate.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any campaign will achieve a particular result.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, FediMedia shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill. Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amounts actually paid or payable to us in respect of the affected campaign or earnings in the three months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred rand (R100).
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless FediMedia and Vula Systems, their officers, directors, employees and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your content or campaigns; (b) your use of the Service; (c) your breach of these terms; or (d) your violation of any law or the rights of a third party. This indemnity survives termination of your account.
13. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms or that your continued participation poses a risk to the network, its communities or other parties. On termination, any accrued but unpaid amounts may be withheld pending resolution of any breach.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. The parties consent to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts. Before initiating formal proceedings, the parties agree to attempt to resolve any dispute in good faith through direct discussion.
